World Cup to boost corporate event management this summer
Date: 02/06/2010
The World Cup will boost the number of football-related corporate events organised by businesses and their employees, it has been claimed.
According to Goals Soccer Centres, a five-a-side football operator, it is one of many leisure groups hoping for a significant boost in trade as a result of the tournament.
The increase in corporate event bookings will be teamed with an increase in pub trade and people placing bets as football fever grips the nation, the Daily Telegraph reports.
A number of corporate hospitality and corporate events firms are already offering World Cup-themed events.
This week, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) issued management guidance to employers, which suggested that workers should be offered half-days off or even unpaid leave whenever England plays in the tournament.
"Employers need to start engaging with their staff to make sure they put plans in place to cater for those employees that want to watch the football, as well as those that don't and might want to work overtime during this period," Mike Cherry, policy chairman of the FSB said.
