World Cup 'a great team building opportunity'

Date: 14/06/2010

The World Cup offers managers a great opportunity for team building activities.

Businesses can put up screens in the office or suggest that the whole team goes out and watches the match together, while World Cup sweepstakes offer the chance for the whole company to get involved, even if they are not football fans.

Using the World Cup as a team building opportunity can also cut down on the number of staff pulling sickies so they can watch the matches that are held on weekdays.

Businesswings.com conducted a survey asking a number of companies if they were worried about the World Cup's effect on business and found that many will be using it as an opportunity to bring their teams together.

"The World Cup as is a huge international event and watching the odd game or two will simply help to motivate the team and build morale in the office,"Garry McLean, Indicia Training managing director, told the news provider.

Earlier this month, the Trades Union Congress advised businesses to allow staff members to work flexibly so they can watch the World Cup matches, suggesting that this will boost morale.
