Working skills 'bring motivation'

Date: 14/05/2009

Bringing skills into the workplace will help managers create a higher level of employee motivation, according to an expert.

Chris Roberts, the chief operating officer of the government's Learning and Skills Council, told the Journal that Learning at Work Day, which takes place today (Thursday, May 14th) focuses around the importance of skills in the office for both performance and morale.

He explained: "During these unsettling times, the ability and motivation to learn and adapt quickly to change will be essential.

"We should all be reflecting on our skills needs both at an individual and a business level, and taking action where needed."

It is hoped that through such training and in-team building events, companies can develop stronger communication between staff and help them grow professionally while also helping their skill set grow should they look for another position or job.

The Learning and Skills Council aims to raise participation and achievement in young people across Britain while also raising skills for national competitiveness, with a strong focus on developing scope for adult learning.
