Female workers in the IT industry value professional development so firms should ensure they are doing all they can to offer things such as team building training, it is advised.
By running things such as company events, technical businesses can recruit and retain more women, suggests Jerri Barrett, director of marketing at the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology.
She urges firms to offer things such as leadership training and networking opportunities, as well as taking into account parental leave and day care arrangements.
Ms Barrett also says that flexible working could aid in motivating female employees and highlights the importance of a clear and balanced promotion process.
Figures from the British Computer Society show that women represent 45 per cent of the UK working population, but just 19 per cent of the IT professional workforce.
