Vouchers are 'popular employee reward'

Date: 09/01/2009

Those hoping to implement a system in the workplace for reward and recognition may want to harness the power of the humble gift voucher, according to an industry specialist.

Commenting on the workplace fabric, the Voucher Association said the awarding of gift vouchers and cards within the workplace was a popular market which accounted for a significant chunk of the £3.2 billion a year spent on the market each year.

Andrew Johnson, the director general of the organisation, said that "45 per cent is business-to-business use so companies give away gift vouchers as part of a motivational scheme", with such items giving the employee a say in what they would like to get themselves with it.

He continued: "The corporate sector is important to the voucher sector as a whole."

According to research carried out in 2008 by the Voucher Association, 90 per cent of people thought gift cards and vouchers were good presents to give a person, with 82 per cent of individuals enjoying the freedom they provided them to buy their own things.
