UK offices now 'happiest since start of recession'

Date: 18/06/2009

Britain's offices are much happier than at any other point during the recession, according to a new report.

The Happiness at Work Index found there to be a steep rise in the number of happy people at work, with 78 per cent of respondents reporting "high levels" of satisfaction.

This trend makes it the highest approval rating in a year and marks the biggest upward shift in the index since it was created two years ago.

However, managing director at Badenoch & Clark Neil Wilson asserted that employers need to continue to work on motivating employees as this is the only way such optimism will translate into a more engaged and productive workforce in the long term.

He added: "Ensuring they continue to identify with the organisation and feel part of the bigger picture will be key in retaining these high levels of happiness and morale."

The Happiness at Work survey has found several key trends in workplace morale, including how women are on average happier in their roles in the workplace than men are.ADNFCR-2060-ID-19226027-ADNFCR
