Toyota calls team-building conference to boost morale

Date: 09/03/2010

In the wake of a huge worldwide recall of vehicles due to safety issues, Toyota has hit a low in terms of morale, forcing the president of the Japanese carmaker to take action and call a team building conference to boost the workforce's motivation.

Around 2,000 workers were brought into the Nagoya headquarters to see Akiio Toyoda, the leader of the organisation, wearing a regular workers' uniform to give an emergency speech to his faithful employees in a move broadcast live on Toyota's network in Japan.

"We have many problems to overcome but we can certainly get over the difficult situation," he said. "Let us join hands and work on regaining our customers' confidence."

The manufacturer felt a team building conference was the best place to start following the recall of millions of vehicles, such as the Prius and Corolla, due to acceleration and braking issues.

Things are not getting easier either; Toyota still faces further criticism after many consumers reported that problems were not fixed after being taken in for repair.
