Tories back London venue investment

Date: 16/10/2009

In a bid to attract more team building corporate events and live brand experiences to the capital, the Conservative party are calling on the government to give more support to venues in London.

According to Conference and Incentive Travel magazine a Tory taskforce report released during the party's conference in Manchester recommends special access for business visitors and event delegates.

Alongside this, a review of the Licensing Act 2003 has also been recommended in order to provide local authorities with the abilities needed to support local events.

It is also hoped that the government will expand on its development of ExCeL London but also demands a further international conference centre in the capital.

Chairman of the Business Visit and Events Partnership Michael Hirst, who acted as representatives to the events industry on the taskforce, said: "I'm delighted that the Conservative Party has recognised the importance of business visits and events and some of the measures needed to support the industry."

ExCeL London is regarded as one of the best locations in London for corporate events management to work with, with a 100-acre campus served by three DLR stations and parking for 2,600 cars as well as five on-site hotels.
