Theo Paphitis: Staff are 'most important' in business

Date: 24/02/2009

Star of Dragon's Den and successful entrepreneur Theo Paphitis has given a range of top tips to businesses hoping to gain an insight into how they can enhance performance in the workplace.

Mr Paphitis told the BBC that in acquiring companies, many people regularly answer his first question wrong: who is the most important person in the business?

He stated that the first guess is regularly the customer before the managers will point at Mr Paphitis himself, yet all along, it is the entire workforce which should be the focus of successful management, emphasising the role of reward and recognition.

The mogul continued: "Motivating staff is not just about making them feel wanted. Tangible rewards are equally important, if not more so. Incentives go a long way to help staff focus on the work they do."

Earlier this month, Mr Paphitis said that energy efficiency in the workplace is also a major facet of business which companies must adhere to, throwing his support behind the new Carbon Trust campaign to help save £1 million a day in offices and factories around the UK.ADNFCR-2060-ID-19042728-ADNFCR
