Chester could be the site of a new £30 million development to bring theatre, arts and corporate event facilities to the city.
A blueprint for the new building was presented to councillors during a meeting of local authority members recently, with the development slated for creation by the River Dee.
It is hoped that the centre will be able to host corporate hospitality events in a space large enough to compete with close rivals in Liverpool and Manchester.
Culture executive member of the council Richard Short explained: "Rightly or wrongly, there is a feeling that Chester has traded on its reputation for some time.
"The new council intends to remedy this situation for the good of present and future generations. The report before us could point the way to making up lost ground in this respect."
Earlier this month, the north-west's Concorde Conference Centre was featured in the Manchester Evening News following the announcement that it has expanded its corporate event facilities.
