Tesco shares profits as part of reward and recognition scheme

Date: 27/05/2009

Leading British supermarket chain Tesco has announced that it is to share out a major bonus package with its employees following huge profits in the last year.

Despite the recession, Tesco registered annual profits of £3 billion and as a result, the hard work of employees will be rewarded through the recognition programme which will see £98 million distributed among the 207,000 staff at outlets across the country.

Non-executive chairman of the chain David Reid explained that without the hard work and skill of workers, the company would not be in the position it is and as a result, he was happy to be motivating employees and boosting performance further through the initiative.

He continued: "They deliver for customers every day and have made Tesco a British success story at home and abroad, an achievement of which we should all be especially proud given the current economic climate."

This week, it was revealed that Tesco are in talks with charity Railway Children to donate £1 from the sale of each DVD of Slumdog Millionaire to the real children behind the tale told by the film.
