Team building corporate events can be 'tied into sporting interests'
Date: 15/03/2010
A recent US-based survey has discovered that if the right balance is achieved, team building corporate events can work well with sporting events in the public eye.
In light of the popular March Madness period of college basketball in America, experts at OfficeTeam asked over 1,000 managers whether or not such sporting contest-related activities, such as watching game highlights or playing friendly competitions, could affect productivity and motivation.
While the majority said that the likes of March Madness do not impact productivity, 41 per cent of respondents felt that it would have a positive effect on employee morale, while a further 22 per cent believed it could boost workers' output.
OfficeTeam executive director Robert Hosking said: "There's no question the excitement generated by major sporting events can be a distraction at work.
"However, it can be a healthy diversion if employers encourage team-building activities tied to the games."
Today (March 15th) sees the launch of the Art of Engagement, which opens its doors at the National Bowl Milton Keynes and is aimed at improving the levels of engagement of UK employees through the likes of team building corporate events.
