With bonuses vanishing and threats of redundancy seemingly round the corner for a number of worried individuals, one writer believes now is the time for bosses to aim for morale-boosting techniques.
Nicole Williams, passing on her knowledge to the Huffington Post, explained that the importance of a new location for something such as a team building conference, however big or small, is always important.
She explained: "Watch as everyone automatically breathes a little easier in a neutral surrounding. A change of atmosphere will re-energise the group and allow everyone to get to know each other in a different light."
Furthermore, incentives and recognition can take the form of smaller things, such as a free laundry service, concert tickets or even a professional massage therapist, Ms Williams added.
Even the tiniest adjustments can work, according to the expert, such as being creative with memos by adding funny stories, YouTube links or song lyrics.
Razor Suleman, the chief executive of I Love Rewards, recently told the Canwest News Service that incentives and recognition help keep hold of the "A-players", especially when the uptun comes knocking after the recession is over.
