Team building activities cost public sector £500,000

Date: 21/06/2010

Civil servants were sent on £500,000 worth of leadership and motivation and corporate team building events last year.

New figures released by several government departments show that team building activities are a high priority in the public sector.

The Treasury revealed that it spent £276,708 in 2009 on team building corporate events. However, it declined to say what type of activities staff participated in.

Meanwhile, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport spent £51,564 on 30 different events - including trips to the Natural History Museum and Regent's Park.

Other departments which held a number of corporate team building events, but did not disclose the amount of money spent on them during 2009 included the Home Office, the Ministry of Justice, Defra.

Spending on team building activities in the public sector could suffer as the new Con-Dem coalition government vows to slash spending in order to reduce the budget deficit.ADNFCR-2060-ID-19848967-ADNFCR
