The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has recently welcomed a review into workforce engagement and the effects of incentive programmes in the workplace.
Led by David MacLeod and Nita Clarke at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, it looked into the employee engagement benefits and techniques which are acceptable in the offices and factories around the country, particularly given the recession.
Commenting on the report, general secretary of the TUC Brendan Barber said: "Effective workforce engagement is vital to help employers through tough economic times. We welcome the MacLeod report and the challenge is now on employers to take it seriously."
Mr Barber added that engagement is the most effective when also done in tandem with independent unions, as this allows the business to stay well informed by the "democratic voice of working people".
The MacLeod review will provide a range of more practical support for organisations who want to raise levels of employee engagement and is expected to become available by March 2010.
