Success 'needs employee input'

Date: 09/10/2009

Employees must ensure their employees are included through such things as team building conferences, otherwise they may be doomed to failure if they try to motivate without them.

That is the view of Jennifer Ledet, who wrote in the Daily Comet that changes are regularly needed in modern organisations and as a result, input is simply necessary from workers if it is to affect them.

She continued: "I can't emphasise this enough. When you're initiating changes that will affect team members' work, ask them for their thoughts. They'll probably have much better ideas. And besides, by asking for their suggestions, you will get greater employee support and buy-in."

Team building conferences may also be a good platform for giving and receiving feedback, another criterion which Ms Ledet believes must be fulfilled by management if it is to lead by example and learn from mistakes.

A new survey released by WorldatWork and Watson Wyatt found that employee engagement has dropped by up to 25 per cent in large organisations over the last 12 months, highlighting the need for more communication in the workplace.
