Staff motivation 'important for being eco friendly'

Date: 02/01/2009

Motivating employees is an important part in a firm becoming more environmentally friendly, it is stated.

Staff expect bosses to be doing something about becoming more energy efficient and should be engaged in any schemes aimed at achieving this, suggests Lara Conaway, sustainability manager at Morgan Lovell.

Campaigns to encourage workers to switch off their computers at night and installing live energy data boards will allow workers and visitors to see what action is being taken, she comments.

Dedicated staff could be given responsibility for energy reduction and offered an incentive scheme to encourage them to increase energy efficiency, Ms Conaway suggests.

Morgan Lovell adds that tapping into the enthusiasm people have for protecting the planet can be beneficial for a firm.

Not only can it motivate existing employees, it can also help to attract new staff.

If people see a firm doing good work, they will be more motivated and loyal, Morgan Lovell states.ADNFCR-2060-ID-18953287-ADNFCR
