Staff are 'carried by strong leadership'

Following a major study of hundreds of companies in the UK by the Sunday Times, it was noted that strong leadership and effective communication are conducive to a strong working environment.
The newspaper interviewed over 200,000 workers across the UK, with respondents noting that bosses who put time and effort into motivating employees were more successful in carrying staff through the downturn.
Leadership is the most important thing in business, says Mike Emmott of the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development, with the expert telling the newspaper that without them, performance can take a hit.
His comments were agreed with by Peter Vardy, the owner of a major car chain in the UK, who said: "We make a big deal of communication, keeping people informed about what is happening, where we are with the numbers, what the targets are.
"It is all to do with preparation, planning, motivating the team and setting expectations."
Last week, Steve O'Kane of A Duie Pyle told Smart Business Philadelphia that without motivation, his company would not have registered the profits that it does.
