Staff are 'becoming more motivated to be energy efficient'

Date: 31/03/2009

New research has found that workers are more likely to go out of their way to save energy in the workplace.

The Carbon Trust revealed that 87 per cent of respondents to a new poll said it was important for them to help their employer in the cutting of costs in the current climate.

Responding to the research, solutions director at the Carbon Trust Hugh Jones said: "These results are very encouraging. Climate change has to be tackled. Saving energy cuts emissions and helps save money, this has to make sense for businesses facing the recession."

However, an incentive scheme created by a company with the help of an events organiser might be a good choice after it was found that 42 per cent of employees were not given the motivation to up their carbon-cutting performance by their managers.

According to the Carbon Trust, even tiny increases in global temperature will result in the flooding of low-lying coastal areas and more extreme weather conditions in the long run.
