Staff 'need to feel valued, respected, trusted'

The best way to boost employee morale is through regular team building conferences and open conversation, according to an expert.
Jeff Knight, a consultant at Tonic Marketing Solutions, told Mortgage Strategy that becoming more effective and efficient is achievable, adding that businesses can survive if inefficient but not ineffective.
"One way is to enhance staff motivation. The more engaged staff are the more profits will grow. You can enhance motivation by focussing on accountability, along with continuous personal development programmes that provide regular feedback," he explained.
Finding time to chat to staff and listen to their concerns is the number one thing to do, perhaps via team building conferences, Mr Knight said, noting that people ought to communicate with individuals on a regular basis about relevant things as internal marketing is "vital" for engaging employees.
Staff must feel valued and respected, he continued, and bosses ought to let them know they are trusted for good measure.
Recently, Melissa Carslake of right4staff recently told Fresh Business Thinking that organisations must concentrate on motivating the best people while not being tempted to carry anyone who is not up to the job.
