Organisations which do not have a reward and recognition scheme in place need to ask themselves why employees may not be as engaged or communicative as usual, it is said.
Speaking to the Straits Times, a number of specialists in reward and recognition made their feelings known, including software engineer Chen Yida who acknowledged the need to be felt wanted by an employer through an incentive scheme or other performance-enhancing measure.
He commented: "If the work doesn't interest me anymore, or if I feel the company doesn't consider the concerns of its staff or provide adequate rewards, then what's the point in going the extra mile?"
David Ang, the executive director of Singapore Human Resources Online, explained that his organisation was exploring a number of ways to enhance engagement.
Such methods include internal problems to improve the quality of working life, health programmes and other schemes to "derive job satisfaction and happiness" from.
