Stadium of Light honoured in two award ceremonies

Date: 19/10/2009

The Stadium of Light is a highly respected venue and was well-received in not one, but two separate awards ceremonies in just one evening.

Towards the end of last week, the Sunderland Echo hosted its Portfolio Business Awards and named the local football club's amenities as the best in which to hold a team building corporate event or live brand experience in the area.

The event, which itself was held at club's Stadium of Light, saw chief executive of Sunderland AFC Steve Walton collecting the gong from councillor Paul Watson, the leader of Sunderland City Council, one of the main sponsors of the event.

However, the same night also saw the club pick up the Business Tourism Award of the Year at the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead during the 2009 North East England Tourism Awards.

The euphoria was undoubtedly added to this weekend when Sunderland beat Liverpool 1-0 at the Stadium of Light, with Darren Bent's winning goal taking a deflection off a Liverpool fan's inflatable beach ball to seal the deal.ADNFCR-2060-ID-19415646-ADNFCR
