St James Centre to accept new facility for team building conferences
Date: 31/03/2010
A new place for team building conferences and corporate events is to be added to major development plans for the popular St James Centre in Edinburgh.
It was revealed in the Scotsman that the new site will be known as St James Quarter and is being carried out in a joint campaign by Allan Murray Architects and BDP.
The design originally outlined plans for shops, around 250 apartments, two hotels, 15,000 sq m of office space as well as other leisure facilities, such as restaurants and cafes.
However, perhaps owing to the current economic climate, office plans have been scrapped as it is felt that there is no market for it, instead changing plans to create an events venue.
Martin Perry, Henderson Global Investors development manager, said of the scheme: "We are looking at a media facility - a small multiplex cinema - that can also be a conference venue, festival venue or show things like a 3D Six Nations rugby match."
Recently, RallyBuzz.com revealed that New Zealand rally driver Hayden Paddon and co-driver John Kennard held a team building corporate event with four Pirelli Star Drivers at Edinburgh University as part of preparations for the FIA World Rally Championship.
