Soft skills are 'major focus' of management in 2010

Date: 29/01/2010

The use of a different working approach to two or three years ago has been picked up on by a leading expert.

Executive director of corporate development at Henley Business School Linda Irwin told Personnel Today that a much more pragmatic approach by management figures and human resource directors in the recession has led to improved communication, perhaps through team building conferences.

She continued: "Rather than axing development budgets and cutting leadership development, they have focused effort on those individuals who they expect will lead their organisations into a future yet to be created."

Soft skills are a great way to achieve this, it was explained, as they are known to bring out the "very best" in people and facilitate team building conferences, making the practice a "priority".

Speaking to the Seattle Intelligencer recently, expert in management Mark Craemer said that strengthening an office through regular dialogue in team building conferences could lead to better employee engagement, increased productivity and long-term retention.
