Jason Falls, a social media consultant and a blogger for socialmediaexplorer.com, explained that companies using the technology have a much better chance of enhancing both a team building ethic as well as a live brand experience.
He continued: "First, it gives your employees a much greater sense of pride in a company that embraces innovation and empowers them to use it.
"Second, and more importantly, it gives you an ad-hoc sales force that organically grows the conversation and positive interactions with your brand in the online space."
This is very much important if a company is to embrace consumers, he added, meaning social media is particularly well-suited to sales-orientated environments.
However, people must not let communication escape them, with a recent poll by HireScores.com discovering that nearly 20 per cent of managers discuss the majority of their dealings via MSN or work emails, meaning that for these, problems within the office very rarely get raised face-to-face.
