Smaller businesses 'care more for employees'

Date: 17/06/2009

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) care more for their workers and as such, many find it easier to motivate employees, according to a recent survey.

The most recent Employee Benefits / Simplyhealth Healthcare Research 2009 study found that larger businesses seemed almost unwilling to provide health programmes for their employees, with only three per cent of those employing between 501 and 1,000 workers giving health benefits.

On the other hand, more than a quarter of SMEs were implementing such a scheme.

However, the concurrent theme which was found was not one concerned with health plans so much as the general attitudes towards reward and recognition, which corporate sales and marketing director for Simplyhealth James Glover highlighted.

He asserted: "In such challenging times, loyal and motivated employees are invaluable to a company's survival and no more so than within the SME arena.

"This is why it is so important for employers to look after staff wellbeing."

Investors in People recently noted how stress can be a damaging quality in a workplace in terms of performance, adding that reward and recognition could boost employee morale.ADNFCR-2060-ID-19212760-ADNFCR
