Small perks in office can have 'major impact'

Business owners and managers are constantly looking for effective ways to improve morale in the workplace and improve motivation, particularly given that employees are being asked to do more with fewer resources, it has been stated.

In the national omnibus survey developed by Keurig and Bob Nelson, it was revealed that many employees would prefer little perks in the workplace, such as free coffee or tea.

Dr Bob Nelson, a workforce motivation expert and best-selling author of 1,001 Ways to Reward Employees and Keeping Up in a Down Economy said: "Employers can inexpensively offer simple perks in the office like flexible working hours, casual dress days or a celebration pizza that offers a significant perceived value to employees."

He added that incentives and recognition should be important for business managers to respond to hard work with, as simple rewards can also go a long way in attracting, motivating and retaining talent.

Recently, Dave Priestly of PruHealth promoted healthiness policies, stating that they will lead to better motivation and morale in the workplace.
