Skimping on employee motivation 'can only add to troubles'

Date: 24/02/2009

Firms should not use the recession as a reason to curb their schemes aimed at motivating employees, as this could add to their troubles, one customer loyalty expert warns.

JoAnna Brandi says that maintaining things such as recognition programmes and company events is important in sustaining customer relationships and can help companies survive the downturn.

"If you let fear overwhelm the standard procedures that support employee engagement and great customer care, you are actually creating additional financial risks in your organisation," she comments.

Ms Brandi explains that people will feed off each other in terms of attitude, so maintaining a positive outlook and continuing to reward accomplishments is vital.

She suggests team building activities as a way to build rapport with employees and keep them motivated.

Recruiter also pointed out this week that the recession will not necessarily lead to reduced employee motivation, adding that managers must realise the impact economic talk may have on staff.ADNFCR-2060-ID-19042290-ADNFCR
