Simple thank yous 'boost motivation'

Date: 27/04/2009

Boosting performance and staff engagement is as simple as showing appreciation for workers in the office, a recent study has discovered.

According to Chester Elton and Adrian Gostick, the main methods used to improve employee morale are successful around the globe, following an in-depth study of global trends, though obvious cultural differences are noted.

Mr Gostick explained: "While employees in China and Russia value team recognition more highly than individual acclaim, the more modest British prefer private recognition from their boss.

"It is clear that every country places a high value on the power of recognition."

The pair added that through the implementation of a reward and recognition scheme, an employer can bring about "direct and immediate bottom-line results" in their organisation.

Last month, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Business Daily stated that another great way to encourage good performance in the office is to implement a solid incentive scheme, though it must be implemented properly otherwise an unfair programme could undo the good work strived for.ADNFCR-2060-ID-19141722-ADNFCR
