There are several practices adopted by businesses looking to improve their bottom line which may work against well-set incentives and recognition, it has been revealed.
A recent Aubrey C Daniels book has been highlighted by Ray B Williams of the Financial Post, who states that certain golden rules must be adhered to if a business is to avoid the possibility of getting problems from employees further down the line.
In Oops! 13 Management Practices that Waste Time and Money, Mr Daniels states that the likes of employee of the month schemes are particularly redundant in the office, as they focus on one worker and do not provide incentives and recognition for everyone when necessary.
Appraisals each year are not great for companies either, it is believed, with the writer stating that neither the employer nor the worker enjoys them and that they also detract from giving immediate praise to people at the time it is deserved.
Recently, the Chicago Sun-Sentinel underlined the need for businesses to improve productivity and communication through team building corporate events.
