Setting goals for staff can have significant benefits for companies if done so properly, a new study has found.
A recent report from the Harvard Business School shows that goal-setting can help boost performance, providing it is not over-subscribed.
"One problem embedded in stretch goals is the possibility that the goal may not be reached," the report continues, with companies urged to get the expertise of an event management company on board to help them with strategies.
Firms need to avoid setting goals which create tasks just for the sake of doing so, the report's authors discovered, as this can inhibit the success of team building training and other such motivational resources.
The most effective goals are those which are simple to apply and create the most efficient results, it concludes.
In recent week, director of advertising at Mirror Group Newspapers David Emin said managers need to use the appropriate style of management to suit their employees' needs, which may involve taking on the services of an event management agency.
