Sales managers 'must focus on employee motivation'
Date: 07/09/2010
Employee motivation is an absolutely essential area for sales managers to focus on, an expert has claimed.
Donny Dye, vice president of sales and search at MediaWhiz, told Sales and Marketing magazine that retention can be a key issue in the sector and the majority of the problem stems from the fact that many employees do not feel sufficiently appreciated in their current roles.
He said that a lack of cohesion can be one of the major obstacles that leads to poor retention, which could be addressed by rolling out team building activities.
By emphasising competition at the cost of this, it can create a toxic quality to the sale floor which negatively affects everyone who takes part, he warned.
Mr Dye said: "Focus on building a culture that rewards team victory, as well as individual performance. Competition has its place, but it cannot be the cornerstone of your team's performance."
A recent report by Badenoch and Clark has highlighted the fact that many generation Y workers are in need of better employee motivation, with poor levels of trust a problem in many companies.
