Salary 'is not the only factor in employee motivation'

Date: 21/04/2010

Salary may be an important factor when it comes to choosing a job, but other motivators - which may include sales incentive programs and team building conference - also play an important role, it has been suggested.

According to a poll conducted for the Metro newspaper, a good salary is the main motivating factor in a job - although Steve Huxham, Chairman of the Recruitment Society, said that job security, prospects and career development are also likely to be things that cause a person to opt for one job over another.

If people feel they are being undervalued in their position, they are likely to start looking for new horizons, he added.

"The survey - if you put it against the fact that companies are not going to be offering people large salary increases this year - suggests to me that the jobs market will pick up again in due course," Mr Huxham said.
