SECC wins award

A major UK corporate and company events facility has scooped an industry award at a recent ceremony.

Glasgow's Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) took the best tourism prize at the 19th Annual Scottish Council for Development and Industry Awards for Exports and Enterprise.

The gong recognised the group's contribution to the area and its efforts in attracting top businesses to the region for exhibitions.

John Sharkey, chief executive of the SECC, commented that the honour is "fantastic", adding it is down to the hard work of those employed by the group.

He went on to say: "It also reinforces our first-class credentials that earned us the title of Best UK Conference Centre."

During the 2007-8 financial year, 46 corporate events were held at the facility, as well as 57 exhibitions.

Performance improvement group MotivAction is also an award winner this month.

The company was given the Business in the Community Award in the Hertfordshire Business Awards, beating off competition from other finalists Groundwork Hertfordshire, Mears and Welwyn Hatfield Council Partnership and Hertfordshire Sports Village.
