Businesses in the Gulf are still doing particularly well in the recession due to their approach with employee morale, it has been stated.
Making her comments to Gulf News this week, BBC broadcaster and motivational speaker Carole Spiers commented on the streamlined efficiency of Dubai businesses and how motivating employees was central to its continued dominance in the region and worldwide.
She stated that reward and recognition programmes related to performance are still a viable option for many businesses in the region, with a "strong sense of fairness" making staff go that extra mile to deliver good results.
This "success climate" is great for making future efforts more constructive and allows team building to occur seamlessly for the good of the business as a whole, Ms Spiers asserted.
However, using bonuses as a substitute is a dangerous move for businesses, she added, with performance-related pay sometimes leading to people taking their eye off the ball and removing real motivation from the team.
Dubai has experienced exponential growth since 1985, when leaders in the United Arab Emirates decided to rebrand the city as a tourist destination.
