Respect and creativity 'should be fostered' in workplace

Date: 02/02/2010

Respect and creativity are both key to success in the current economic climate in businesses around the country, it has been asserted.

John Schaefer, a consultant with over 20 years of experience helping companies realise the so-called "employer/employee disconnect", told TMCnet that a level of personal responsibility is necessary to allow managers to get big results with a minimum of time invested with each member of staff.

Employees who do well in this respect are always more invested in their work because they are respected by bosses and as such are "more alert, creative, and productive", he asserted.

Mr Schaefer explained that employees will automatically respond to respect with more creativity, with the expert adding that the best philosophy to go by being that "there are no bad ideas, only undeveloped ones".

Earlier in the week, Daniel Pink told MoneyWatch.com that organisations should dispense with bonuses and do away with punishments, instead focusing creative employees on team building conferences and other bonding tasks.
