Plans to make personnel cutbacks in the NHS have been lambasted by a leading figure in the organisation, who believes that money is best saved through further training investments.
Sian Thomas, the director of NHS Employers, underlined the importance of aiming to develop staff and simply not fire them.
The expert said: "The NHS must avoid this impacting on morale and increased workload pressures in order to improve patient safety and continue to improve clinical outcomes at the front line level."
She added that perhaps through incentives and recognition, team building conferences or other innovations, NHS leaders must resist redundancies on a large scale, make the most of natural turnover, and increase productivity.
Ms Thomas further asserted that the NHS has shown itself to be "innovative" enough to save funds in the past, though improvements must be made soon.
NHS Employers keeps bosses in the health service up to date with workforce thinking trends while providing practical advice and information, as well as aiding them in establishing networks to share knowledge.
