Recognition programmes must not simply focus on individual accomplishments but also reward teamwork and collaboration, businesses are being advised.
A scheme that recognises and rewards working together can reinforce a culture of cooperation, explains Harvard Management Update.
It suggests that incentives and recognition highlight the philosophy that performance is increased when people collaborate.
To assess how a recognition scheme encourages teamwork, the news provider suggests firms look at how it encourages staff to learn from one another, what follow-up action is taken and the proportion of reward and recognition given for individual and team efforts.
It says of recognition schemes: "They can turn the ideal of productive and creative collaboration into a reality".
