Employees can be motivated through recognition programmes to help them become more productive and loyal, one expert asserts.
The more bosses recognise the efforts of their staff, the more firms will benefit, states customer service guru John Tschohl.
"We all have a basic need to feel valued and important, to feel that what we do is appreciated and noticed," he explains.
Most people underestimate the power of simple recognition of good work and should be aware of how it can motivate employees, Mr Tschohl adds.
The expert advises that any recognition programme should be sincere, timely, specific and public to ensure it is taken seriously, has an impact and is seen by others.
Recognition programmes are a good place to start when looking to motivate employees, another commentator suggested this week.
What motivates people as well as what de-motivates them must be considered, said Habeeb Ahamed in an article for the Deccan Herald.
