Recession 'will not necessarily demotivate staff'

Date: 23/02/2009

The recession does not necessarily lead to a drop in employee motivation, businesses are being reassured.

As long as managers realise the impact of economic talk on staff performance and understand employees as individuals, people can remain motivated, says Recruiter.

"People are most scared of the unknown. Nobody will be motivated if they are scared or suspicious about the current climate," Fiona Lander, managing director of recruitment training firm Lander Associates tells the news provider.

They must be reassured that there is a plan, she states, as this will give them confidence in what they are doing and motivate them to continue.

Reward and recognition schemes and development events such as team building activities send out a positive message and remind staff there is a boom for every bust, adds Roy Ripper, director and co-founder of Recruitment Juice.

A recent study by Accountemps also highlights that communication between bosses and staff is an important factor in employee motivation.ADNFCR-2060-ID-19040009-ADNFCR
