Profit-sharing reward and recognition could boost productivity

Date: 11/08/2010

Employee motivation and productivity can be boosted with a simple profit-sharing reward and recognition programme.

According to the new Kelly Global Workforce Index, employee motivation would be much higher if sales incentive programmes made way for profit-sharing schemes.

Kelly Services polled some 134,000 workers in 29 countries around the globe and found that that 30 per cent of UK workers are party to a performance-related reward and recognition programme.

Meanwhile, 53 per cent of those questioned said employee motivation would be boosted if they were entitled to performance-related pay.

Interim country general-manager Andrew Cook said: "Many employees are actually quite comfortable about some element of their compensation being tied to their individual or group performance.

"This indicates that many are confident in their ability to perform their jobs well and believe they can share in the rewards of improved workplace productivity."

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development believes that flexible working can also boost employee motivation.
