Employees largely dislike the use of criticism as the main way to motivate them, according to a major newspaper mogul.
David Emin, who works as the director of advertising at Mirror Group Newspapers, said that managers were just as willing to use the "stick" approach as they were the "carrot" style of motivating employees, showing that staff incentives were perhaps not as popular as they could be.
He continued: "For some employees, this type of management can occasionally work. However, the majority of us do not find continual criticism or lack of recognition particularly motivating."
Given the role of praise in the office as a major contributor in motivating employees, managers may want to take an extra step and hire an events agency to help improve performance even more through an incentive scheme.
According to Business Week's Carmine Gallo, respect is one of the best incentives which can be used in the workplace.
