Poor employee motivation can cause health problems
Date: 25/08/2010
Poor employee motivation can make it less likely that employees will discuss health issues with their colleagues.
According to Dr Doug Wright, principal clinical consultant at Aviva UK Health, communication barriers are often found between employers and their staff when it comes to health risks - such as stress.
He claimed: "Lack of employee engagement will also hinder an employer's ability to intervene early and offer their employees the right support at the right time."
His comments come after new research published by Aviva UK Health showed that just four per cent of employees would feel comfortable talking to their boss about health issues.
Moreover, Aviva's Health of the Workplace study found that more than a fifth of workers believed that informing their employer of any health concerns they had would hamper their career prospects.
Recent research from Medicash found that men take more days off sick with stress than women - highlighting the importance of a good work-life balance.
