Pessimists, complainers 'should be addressed directly'
Date: 03/03/2010
Employees who are filled with bad energy and exude pessimism in the workplace should be addressed directly by a company, otherwise the company could deteriorate, it is believed.
Fiona D'Silva, an expert in business and management speaking to the Economic Times, asserted that people who have such an influence over the working environment ought to be enlightened through a team building corporate event, which could help them improve their outlook.
She said: "Negative individuals thrive on an intrinsic ability to tap into the potential for despair which is present in all of us.
"They peddle their special brand of pessimism, including discouragement and defeatism, and can easily infect the people around them."
Diwakar Pande, a PR guru, said that in such situations, he does not attempt to persuade the negative person that they are wrong, instead showing them some alternatives that are worth trying.
It follows the latest Randstad Work Watch, which discovered that people are more likely to enjoy work if there are friendships with co-workers.
