Many companies may see pep talks as a major motivator in the workplace, yet it is only a temporary measure at best, according to a psychology expert.
Dr Goh Chee Leong, speaking to the Star, said that while words and communication are powerful forces when it comes to motivating employees, leadership is never that simple and more must be done to ensure that performance remains high.
He explained that sometimes, it was really the most simple things which can help in boosting the workplace.
Dr Leong continued: "Read any management guidebook and it'll tell you the same thing: choose people who have the ability to get the job done. Set them clear targets and give them room to work."
He added that micro-managing is not right in such a situation, especially as the top performers need space to grow professionally, thus benefiting the entire company.
However, managers must assert authority in the office, with Forbes explaining that without a strong will in the workplace, a leader will let their team get away from them.
