Pay is not the best means of motivating employees in the workplace, it has been claimed.
According to Stephen Archer, from employment agency Spring, employee motivation is driven by a huge number of factors and pay is by no means the most important.
Mr Archer claimed that workers often need reasons other than money to stay in their current roles.
"The best motivation you can give workers now is to invest in them and give them a clear development path in the organisation. These things are far more valuable than pay rises," he said.
Mr Archer added that people generally stick with an organisation if they feel good about themselves whilst at work.
He claimed that employees will move on if the opposite is true - no matter how much they are being paid.
Last week, HR expert Maria Collins told Helium that employee motivation can be done on a budget.
