Offshore Europe to return to Aberdeen

Date: 03/09/2009

Next week, Aberdeen City Council is to welcome the "most prestigious business conference and exhibition held in the city", highlighting its abilities to host team building conferences.

The Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre will host Offshore Europe 09 between September 8th and 11th, an event which hosts a number of live brand experiences and, in 2007, raised £25.94 million for the local economy.

Aberdeen Lord Provost Peter Stephen said in previous years that Offshore Europe is "one of the world's foremost oil and gas events" and one which makes a "huge contribution" towards businesses in the area.

He added: "The event also offers us a unique opportunity to showcase our city, region and our aspirations as we welcome key energy sector players from around the world."

However, a bus strike could threaten the true potential of the event, with 81 per cent of First bus drivers voting to take the action after rejecting a fresh pay offer - something Aberdeen City Council leader John Stewart believes will have "unacceptable" consequences for the reputation of the city.

It is hoped talks will iron out issues prior to the event.
