The O2 Arena is aiming to expand on its facilities for corporate events in the near future, the new consultant to the venue's owner has revealed.
David Hornby of AEG Europe told Conference News that the O2 is looking to package meeting and event space as part of a possible hotel development, explaining that the venue stands to gain a lot from such an initiative.
He noted that the owners need to work through plans and finances to make a solid case for their proposals, though east London is lacking in hotel space, particularly given there is a huge amount of interest from huge bands in the facility.
Mr Hornby is also working with the England 2018 bid to bring the World Cup to the UK and believes the impact on the venue will be very positive if the submission is successful.
He continued: "The Football World Cup will not only bring us a global audience, but will also prove that as a country we can host major events. And the more of these we do, the more competitive we will become."
Michael Jackson will be appearing in the venue's highest-profile event to date from July, with the best-selling pop artist scheduled to stay until March 16th 2010.
