The north-east of England may not be the most ideal place for people to host large-scale conferences, according to an expert in the industry.
Phil Eadon, the managing director of the Allancia Group in Washington, Tyne and Wear, told Middlesbrough's Evening Gazette there is a dearth of competent event spaces between Newcastle and Harrogate, citing the popularity of the Yorkshire Event Centre.
He continued: "If you are talking about a big international conference of 500-plus people, the nearest venue is probably Harrogate or the Newcastle Sage and for an exhibition, Doncaster racecourse."
However, the newspaper was quick to point out that while Mr Eadon's comments may be true, there have been several high-profile redevelopments in the area, including a £5 million development of corporate event space at Darlington's Aston Hotel.
Middlesbrough's Thistle Hotel has also undergone a £1 million revamping of its corporate hospitality event features.
Newcastle United's facilities at St James' Park may attract many people too, with corporate hospitality fixtures at the stadium including the Robson, Milburn, Joe Harvey and Moncur Suites providing top-quality catering.
