When aiming to impress the new generation in the workplace, a business should stick to some of the more traditional methods of keeping them happy such as incentives and recognition, it is said.
Generation Y, as the age group is known collectively, looks to be treated with the same respect as their fellow older workers, according to a new business report by the Chicago Tribune, which analysed the trend with the help of several business leaders in the city.
One such expert was Stuart Breslow, the chief executive officer at Townsend Analytics, an organisation which gives its company incentives and recognition through free Friday lunches and Tuesday breakfasts to boost motivation and improve productivity.
He explained: "The things Generation Y seems to be looking for are things all of our employees are looking for. Doing right for your employees is a pragmatic, practical thing to do."
One way many businesses may want to motivate their company is to host a Christmas party this December, according to Ben Wilmott of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development - so long as employees act in the correct way, as it is still a professional environment.
